Lyrics
Trip away. Make no stay. Meet me all by break of day.

I made this tag in memory of the brilliant director Joanna Carrick who sadly passed away this year (2026). We worked together on many productions, the first of which being Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream in 2010. These lines "trip away, make no stay, meet me all by break of day" are spoken by Oberon at the end of the play. And imagining those days, long ago, performing to crowds in the open air, that summer, those lines vanishing from Oberon's lips, swallowed up by the night and those audience's ears, it feels to me there's something magical about those words. Oberon is saying good night. He's saying "let's retire until we meet again, when the sun rises," and in this time of loss it feels in a way like these words could call to our mortality. "Meet me on the other side," he could be saying. "Meet me when this world is done." So this small fragment of a song I've arranged in my current favourite style, of barbershop, in memory of a director who took stories and spun them into such wondrous shapes as to have changed so many lives in her time on this earth.
